On a nice day in late September with sunny skies. Belly Bumps Baby and You (BBBY) hosted our 2nd event at the Dekalb County Library. We created a safe, warm and welcoming environment for the expectant families.
The event took place at the Wesley Chapel branch location. We invited expectant families and welcomed their birth support individuals to join. A hands-on, interactive, and engaging childbirth education workshop. My colleague and I were the facilitators and we invited a special guest. A local dentist to educate about pregnancy and oral care.
Secondly, as expectant families arrived they received snacks and bottled water all sponsored by BBBY. Expectant moms, dads, and birth support individuals attended. There was a childbirth workbook given to each individual that was created and curated by my colleague and I. Furthermore the book followed the childbirth education curriculum.
The day started out of a fun educational Mommy Mixer which included trivia and prizes! Participants were quizzed on pregnancy, labor, and birth questions. The more correct questions they answered the more tickets earned. The tickets were drawn all throughout the childbirth workshop. Each winner walked away with birth related prizes from our lovely sponsors. Everything from diapers, postpartum kits, baby monitors, and more!
The event included a catered lunch for everyone. We opened up with a group meditation which grounded all of our participants. My colleague and I took turns teaching childbirth education followed by special guest, Hope Marshall, from Woodstock Dentistry who presented on the importance of oral health while pregnant and gave away oral kits, The last segment was hands-on comfort measures and birth positions. Lastly, we had another surprise guest come (Rahkia Williams, Center for Black Women’s Wellness) and speak and give away a grand prize! We wrapped up the event with swag bags full of good information and gifts from our sponsors.
